Meet Danny Fay, founder of Hill of Tara Wines, a Moon Mountain District focused winery named after the sacred Hill of Tara in Ireland, land that his family proudly farmed and preserved from 1928 to 1974. Danny’s Great Grandfather and Great Uncles were the last private landowners of this magical and ancient land that he has visited many times over his life. Nan (Danny’s grandmother) always bragged about the family’s lucky farming history, so Danny figured “if I’m going to start my own winery, I should honor my family AND their farming luck for the project on Moon Mountain.” Fast forward to 2015, Danny scraped together his life savings and began the journey of farming his first vineyard and picking one ton of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Moon Mountain District.
Each year, Hill of Tara crafts between 1 to 3 barrels of each wine. They are rewarded with great quality, but limited supply. Since Hill of Tara does not produce enough wine to distribute to restaurants or wine shops yet, they exclusively sell their wines through an annual e-mail offering and Allocation List for purchasing wine that will be shipped directly to your doorstep. Hill of Tara is a small, but mighty wine dream and they hope to share it with wine lovers from around the world.
