Crash The Market

It’s Tuesday. It’s summer in Sonoma Valley. And you know what that means. Valley of the Moon Certified Farmers’ Market is in full swing on the Plaza in Sonoma.

If you’ve never been to the Tuesday Night Farmers’ Market, this is anything but your typical mill about a few fruit stands affair. It’s a big old picnic party on the town square, with something for everyone to do, play, eat, drink, enjoy and dance too.

Sure there’s food, lots of it, fresh from the local farms and gardens or prepared by one of the incredible neighborhood eateries. And wine? Of course. Along with the occasional “pop-up” tastings from local wineries at the market, you’re free to grab a bottle from one the many winery tasting rooms on the square. Several of these tasting rooms feature extended evening hours as well as special offerings for market bound guests. (Look for the plaza inset detail on our handy winery map to explore the many options available.) Wine in hand, follow the music and find a seat by the band. The music really makes it, with a different local band playing every week, it’s like a weekly showcase of the best of the North Bay music scene.

And yet, what really sets the Valley of the Moon Certified Farmers’ Market different apart is a palpable sense of community. The first thing you notice is how many people bring a blanket or a few lawn chairs and make an evening of it, mingling with friends and neighbors from around town. All the makings of an amazing picnic are right there. Way more than we can list, but let’s give you a sense.

Prepared and packaged food from, to name just a few, Harvey’s Gourmet Doughnuts, Nellie’s Oysters, Tips Tri Tip Trolley, Golden State Pickle Works, Java Wagon and Wine Country Chocolates.
