Laurel Glen Vineyard has long been considered an iconic Cabernet vineyard. Originally planted in the 1880’s, the present-day vineyard was developed in the 1970’s by Sonoma wine pioneer Patrick Campbell, who also developed the proprietary Laurel Glen Clone of Cabernet Sauvignon The vineyard’s combination of high altitude, eastern exposure, rocky soils, and small diurnal temperature swings produce very distinctive wines. Despite its small production, the wines have received international acclaim for their exceptional balance, elegance and ability to age gracefully. After 30 vintages, Patrick Campbell sold the vineyard and winery to a small group of wine lovers led by Bettina Sichel, whose family has been in the wine business in Europe for five generations.
An ambitious team has ushered in a new era at Laurel Glen Vineyard. Organic viticultural guru Phil Coturri manages the vineyard. Talented winemaker Randall Watkins manages the cellar. Under their stewardship, Laurel Glen Vineyard has been rebuilt with great care. The vineyard is now CCOF certified organic in addition to a host of other quality-oriented improvements.
